About

A peer, nine months ahead

I am not an AI expert. I am a project manager — Agile and change management, twenty-five years — who got tired of feeling behind and started earlier than you did. That is the whole qualification.

There was a part of me doing the arithmetic on whether I could just reach retirement before this became part of day-to-day work in my field. It turned out the answer was no, which is how most of these decisions get made.

What changed it was one weekend spent building automated workflows — small ones, for work I did every month and disliked every month. Nothing about that weekend required writing code. It required knowing what the work actually was, which is the part I already had.

That is the thing I keep finding with people at this stage. The confusion is about vocabulary and permission, not about intelligence. You already know how to brief someone. The only new part is that this thing never asks a clarifying question unless you tell it to.

Background

The relevant background

  • Twenty-five years

Project management, Agile delivery, and change management. Real work, real constraints, real people who did not want the change.

  • Started as a developer

None of the specifics I learned twenty years ago still apply. Every principle does. That is also the promise being made to you: your transferable asset is judgment, not technique.

  • Nine months of this

Not a decade. Nine months, which is close enough to remember exactly which parts were confusing.
